Legacy Star Designs got its start back in 2015, born out of sheer frustration with Tripod — which, fittingly, folded not long after. What began as a simple need for a more reliable home online has grown into a full catalog spanning several distinct galleries, each built around its own process, its own materials, and its own reason for existing. Some pieces are drawn entirely by hand, some are built inside a program from the ground up, and a few blend real, physical materials with digital tools. What ties them together isn't a single style so much as a shared curiosity about where a piece can go once you start working it.
That range shows up clearly across the collections. Abstract Modern leans into pure digital composition — bold shapes, layered color, and geometry built entirely on screen. Flower Press takes the opposite starting point: real flowers, pressed and preserved from two years spent in Iowa, then scanned and worked into finished pieces. Galaxies 101 imagines a retro-futurist universe of rockets, lamps, and orbiting curiosities. Mixed Media pulls together illustration, found imagery, and collage into busy, layered compositions. Mushroom Club builds a quiet, overgrown fairytale world one hand-drawn line at a time. And running alongside all of it, Koi and Aquatic brings a bolder, more traditional illustrative style to the water-and-nature side of the catalog.
Technique varies just as much as subject matter here. Abstract Modern is built entirely through the computer, with no AI involved at any stage — every shape and color decision made directly on screen. Galaxies 101 takes a similar no-AI approach, with some designs drawn entirely by hand and others constructed through a program, depending on what the piece called for. Mushroom Club stays fully hand-drawn at its core — each piece starts as a physical line drawing before being edited and finished digitally. Flower Press sits in more blended territory: the flowers themselves are always real and pressed by hand, with some pieces incorporating AI-generated elements and others featuring original illustration work layered in alongside them. Mixed Media blends the most: original illustration, hand-selected stamps, and some AI-assisted elements, with the computer used to organize backgrounds rather than to hand-place every piece.
With that much variety, the products tend to sort themselves out by collection. Abstract Modern's bold geometric compositions read especially well as wall art and phone cases, where the color and structure can really stand out. Flower Press and Galaxies 101 are both flexible enough to work across almost anything in the shop — walls, stickers, even T-shirts for Galaxies 101's more graphic pieces. Mixed Media shares that same versatility, translating well across most of what's available. Mushroom Club is the one exception worth calling out on its own: its soft linework and detailed color washes are best suited to smaller-format pieces like stickers, phone cases, and posters, rather than clothing.
